Bushido, the “way of the samurai” was originally the unwritten moral code of the Japanese warrior. The highest virtues were courage, a calm mind, benevolence, sincerity, devotion, respect, but also honor and glory. The warrior’s duty was also constant study and self-improvement in his craft, but also humility or freedom from excessive ornamentation and whimsicality … Roman Sedina took this path. He had the marasmus of the middle stream, he showed devotion to the craft he studied, he had humility before the material he chose, he freed himself from false pretensions. His ceramics have become a chronicle, revealing with each glance the way they were made. Every stroke of the artist’s spatula, every touch of his hands yesterday remains imprinted on the ceramic vessel, so that today, tomorrow, a week from now, ten years from now, we can read the path that led to its creation.
